Open source vendor Red Hat has announced the release of JBoss Developer Studio 2.0 - Portfolio Edition, expanding its software development offerings.
As well as an enhancement to the Eclipse-based toolset, the new platform also integrates JBoss Enterprise Application, Portal, SOA and Data Services Platforms, offering quicker transition from development to production.
Red Hat claims that its new release offers a development environment for rich web applications, mission critical enterprise applications and integration services. It builds on Java developer toolset Eclipse, and is said to enable developers to produce interactive applications and services using technologies like Seam, Java EE, AJAX and Portlets as part of standards-based Service Oriented Architectures.
The Portfolio Edition supports and includes the full portfolio of JBoss Enterprise runtimes and tools: JBoss Developer Studio 2.0, JBoss Enterprise Application Platform, JBoss SOA Platform, JBoss Enterprise Data Services Platform, JBoss Enterprise Portal Platform, JBoss Operations Network, OpenJDK and Red Hat Enterprise Linux.
Craig Muzilla, vice president of Red Hat's middleware business, said: “We launched JBoss Developer Studio Portfolio Edition to provide developers… with an easily accessible way to begin enterprise development projects on the exact same code that is in our supported JBoss Enterprise Middleware Platforms. This strategy is expected to enable customers to make a seamless transition from development into production.”
The announcement comes as EclipseCon, the annual gathering of the Eclipse community, kicks off in California.
